Nagpur: Vidarbha’s single day Covid cases and deaths rose to 3,528 and 31 for the first time in 140 and 100 days, respectively, on Wednesday. The ongoing resurgence of cases in Nagpur, Wardha and all five districts of Amravati division spurred the day’s tally beyond the 3,000-mark, after September 22 last year when the 11 districts reported 2,920 cases and 83 deaths. Amravati is probably reporting equal number deaths as Nagpur for the first time.
The corresponding ration of deaths and cases in September indicate that though infectivity has increased manifold, fatality remains low.
Nagpur district reported 1,181 cases, its highest since September 19. Detection of such large number of cases may not have been possible without phenomenal increase in daily testing. The new cases were found from over 10,000 samples processed in public and private labs.
While Amravati recorded its second highest tally of the day with 802 cases, Akola (385), Yavatmal (215), Buldhana (368) and Washim (318) too have started indicating spread of infection to different corners of the districts.
The 31 deaths were from Nagpur (10), Bhandara (1), Wardha (2) Amravati (10), Yavatmal (1), Buldhana (4) Washim (1). Now, the toll is 7,291.
The 3,528 new cases were from Nagpur (1,181), Bhandara (14), Wardha (192), Gondia (10), Chandrapur (34), Gadchiroli (9), Akola (385), Amravati (802), Yavatmal (215), Buldhana (368) and Washim (318). This took the tally to 3,07,229
The 1,466 recoveries were from Nagpur (455), Bhandara (19), Wardha (143), Gondia (9), Chandrapur (19), Gadchiroli (9), Akola (106), Amaravati (497), Yavatmal (56), Buldhana (123) and Washim (30). Now, 2,78,771 have recovered and 19,701 are under treatment.
Amravati: Ten Covid deaths and a spike of 802 cases for the second successive day underlined the futility of a lockdown. This is the third time that the district has reported ten or more deaths on a single day. As many as 16 were reported on September 11 and 10 on August 5 last year. The deaths took the toll to 481 while the spike, the second highest thus far, took the caseload to 31,925.
Yavatmal: The district reported the death of a 71-year-old man taking the toll to 454. Of the 1,271 test reports, 215 were found positive. Currently, 1,296 active positive patients undergoing treatment in the district. Of the 16,716 positive patients, 14,964 including 56 of Wednesday have recovered.
Wardha: A spike of 192 cases were registered in the district while two more deaths took the toll to 336. Meanwhile, 143 patients were discharged as the recoveries reached 10,514.
Gadchiroli: No Covid death has been reported here since January 17. New cases count increased by 9, the lowest among all Vidarbha districts. At the same time, 9 recoveries were reported. The district now has just 70 active cases. So far, 9,307 have defeated Covid in the district.
Washim: The district reported a death and cases increased by 318. It also reported 30 recoveries. Death toll is 157. The new cases took the tally to 8,240 while the discharged count rose to 7,192 while 890 are active.
Buldhana: Four deaths while a whopping 368 new cases were reported. According to official data, the district now has 17,280 cases, 14,945 recoveries including 191 of Wednesday, 157 deaths and 890 active cases.
Bhandara: The district reported a death first the time after February 12. Day’s cases were at 14, and recoveries 19. The district has 173 active cases. Total caseload is 13,548 and 13048 discharged patients.
Gondia: The district didn’t witness any Covid death. It saw 9 recoveries and 10 new cases. Number of patients under treatment are 77. The new positive patients took the tally to 14,365. So far, 185 have succumbed, while 14,103 have recovered.
Akola: The district reported 385 cases and two deaths. Only 106 recoveries were reported. The case tally climbed to 14,803. So far, 359 people have died here. With new recoveries, the tally touched 11,781. The active cases are 2,663.
