Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) standing committee on Thursday sent back the civic administration’s proposal to appoint 39 private organizations for running its eight libraries and 31 study centres stating that it ignored former mayor Anil Sole-led panel’s recommendations.
The NMC library department had submitted a proposal and sought Rs2.06 crore towards payment to 47 private organizations to operate study centres and libraries for three years, said standing committee chairman Vijay Zalke.
A committee led by the then mayor Sole was formed to select private organizations to operate NMC libraries and study centres. “However, the administration ignored the committee’s suggestion while finalizing names of private organizations,” said Zalke.
The standing committee has asked the administration to include the recommendations of the Sole-led panel and table the proposal again.
The committee okayed the solid waste management department’s proposal for extension to a private agency entrusted to maintain the 257 public toilets across the city. “Over Rs1 crore has been sanctioned for payment to the firm for six months,” said Zalke.
The committee forwarded to the general body a proposal from the public health engineering department on strengthening the 24X7 water supply system under 18 more command areas. OCW has agreed to carry out the additional work for over Rs78 crore, he said, adding the company had earlier refused it.
