Nagpur: Regular exams for the 2020-21 academic session would be conducted before April, said vice chancellor Subhash Chaudhari.
He reiterated that the exams would be conducted online with offline option for aspirants from rural areas facing Internet issues.
“Unlike the summer 2020 exams, it wouldn’t be easy for the students this time around. They wouldn’t be getting any choice in questions. They have to compulsorily attempt all 25 questions. Moreover, there would be other patterns like fill in the blanks, match the pairs and some descriptive queries besides multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Our objective is to maintain a certain standard,” Chaudhari told TOI.
Commerce dean Sanjay Kavishwar, who accompanied Chaudhari, ruled out any chances of holding the exam on computers, clarifying that the pattern would remain the same for both professional and general courses papers. “We will also be geo-tagging mobiles to prevent students from sitting adjacent to each other while solving papers. This time around, NU wouldn’t be entrusting colleges for conducting papers. We will ensure that the first, third, fifth and seventh semesters’ papers will end before April,” he told TOI.
Explaining the delay, Chaudhari said they had constituted a task force for finalizing formalities of regular exams, which would probably be conducted on Saturdays and Sundays without disturbing the regular classes. “We’re finalizing a new agency for conducting online exams. Many new players like Delhi-based Wheebox have applied. Like last time, Promarc wouldn’t be there. Once the tender is finalized, the task force would complete the formalities. We’re coming out with a new concept of holding papers on browsers instead of App and on very low bandwidth.”
Nagpur dist colleges closed till March 7
Nagpur district colleges would remain closed till March 7 in view of the collector and NMC commisioner’s orders. Vice chancellor Subhash Chaudhari said principals of NU-affiliated colleges in Bhandara, Gondia, and Wardha, besides Nagpur should strictly follow the orders of their respective district administrations while conducting offline classes. Colleges restarted for the first time from February 15 after eight months, but a sudden spike in cases led to their closure once again in entire Vidarbha. “All these districts have their respective rules for tackling the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, we can’t set uniform guidelines for them,” he said.
NU’s convocation on April 23
NU’s 108th convocation would be held on April 23. Students of the 2019-20 batch would be conferred with degrees. NU would be holding a special convocation to bestow Doctor of Law (LLD) on Chief justice of India Sharad Bobde on April 3. “Chancellor BS Koshyari instructed us to inform him about the date of the convocation. We finalized it and informed him. His office then cleared April 23 for the ceremony. We’re yet to finalize the other details like the chief guest,” said VC Chaudhari.
